My Name is Asher Lev

Sunday, January 6, 2013 3PM at the Westside Theater

For somehow, I was thinking this was someway... a comedy. At the ticket counter, I was debating between Golden Boy and this. Of course, Golden boy did not have a good seat for me, so I went with My name is Asher Lev, Off Broadway. The ticket agent actually asked me if I knew what the show is about because a lot of people were asking for this show. I said "No... I just heard good reviews of the show"

The show was based on the novel, My Name is Asher Lev.

Before the show, I noticed that this was a sold out show, many audiences appeared to be Jewish.... hmmmm.....
'I wonder what this is all about'

Well, it was about this man 'Asher Lev', Jewish Art Genius struggling between his tradition, culture, family, and his society & his artistic Desire...  He showed his artistic Talent since he was only 6 years old. His mom took him to a art museum in Brooklyn and he would mimic the art he saw at the museum, but his mom did not what he drew and pushing him to draw something pretty like flowers, butterflies.... not herself in pain always trying to mediate between him and his father.

As he grew older, he desires to draw nude, but his father did not understand why drawing Nude can be a Art form.

Rejected by his jewish society, struggled with his only background and tradition, he finally decided to draw what he truley feels inside... His mom on the cross and himself on oneside and his father on the other side...

The "crucifixtion of Brooklyn', his drawing, was a huge success.... however, his struggle between his tradition and his artistic desire does not end there.

So, finally, he decided to go to leave everything behind and left for Paris....

From the begining to the end, I saw without making any noise even a coughing sound... The show was serious and portrait a lot of different emotions, feels as if I was listening to a very sad classical music that plays only with a single instrument but even after the music ended, that melody line still lingers in my brain...

On the way back to the hotel room after the show, it still felt like my footsteps was reading the lines one step at a time......

My sincere applaude

Who hasn't hummumed the songs from "tomorrow" or "You're never fully dressed without a smile" or even "it's the hard knock life" before. They are the all time favorite musical songs. 11 year old orphan girl becoming a daughter of NOT a millionaire but a Billion air. hmmm... almost sound like a cindellera story....

Anyway, I was very impressed by the girls played orphans, especially Lilla Crawford who portraited Annie on the show. Her acting, singing, even her tap dancing skills were superb, made me wonder where I was when I was 11...

Also, the dog, Sandy.... this 3 year old "Sunny" rescued in Texas, almost put to death if it wasn't for the show. He was awesome on the stage as well.
Annie - awesome story, fantastic musics... can't go wrong.

Loved it!

The Mystery of Edwin Drood

Saturday, January 5 2013 2:00 PM

This Broadway show is based on Charles Dickens' final & unfinished novel "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" at the
Roundabout Theater on 43rd street. Because the novel was never finished, at the end of the show,  the cast draws vote from the audience about conclusion of the mystery of Edwin Drood's Disappearance.

The show was very energetic, funny, and refreshing. I would definitely recommend the show to any theater goer.

Also, Stephanie Block, who played Edwin Drood was awesome as always. I saw her on "Anything Goes" and I fell in love with her talent. She was also appeared as Elphaba in Wicked as well.
